Antivirus and Malware Removal Tools

Here are some of our favorite antivirus protection and malware removal tools:

AVG Free - Great free virus protection - http://free.avg.com/download?prd=afe

On-Line Virus Scanners - On-line virus scanners come in handy because they always have the latest virus definitions and you don't have to worry about a virus disabling them - make sure you choose one with a free removal option as well - some of our favorites include BitDefender On-Line Scan - http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html - and TrendMicro HouseCall - http://housecall.trendmicro.com

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - One of the best Malware Removal Tools, doesn't hurt to download it and run it occasionally.  Make sure you update it every time before you run a scan.  Also, if it finds something nasty, never a bad idea to run a full scan with Windows in Safe Mode - http://www.malwarebytes.org/

HiJackThis - This tool gives you an in-depth view of registry entries, startup items, browser helper objects, services, etc - in the right hands it is a very powerful malware detection and removal tool - http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/hijackthis

Winsock XP Fix - Sometimes, when you fix one thing, you break something else (like your Internet connection, or more specifically Windows Sockets).  This is a great tool to have handy when you all of a sudden can't get on the Internet.  It isn't updated anymore, but it is still handy - http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html

Sometimes none of these tools work and you have to pull out the big guns - that is where we come in.  Visit http://www.smileyfacepc.com to let our Experts fix your computer.
